Lead Software Developer in Test

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer in Test to join our rapidly expanding engineering team. Working alongside our Engineers, and in close collaboration with other disciplines like Infrastructure, Product and Design, this individual will take ownership of our automated tests, continuous integration build pipeline and quality strategy.

At Apperio we hire smart, creative people and give them the autonomy they need to have an impact. We also expect our engineers to do more than just commit code. We work in a very collaborative, high-trust environment and we expect you to share your expertise and experience with the team and participate actively in growing our engineering culture. You’ll be involved in defining how we build our platform, what tools we use, why we choose to do things a certain way and what features we build.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the QA and Test Automation function and take ownership of our quality strategy.
  • Collaborate with engineers to design and maintain our suite of automated unit, integration, acceptance and regression tests.
  • Design test plans for new stories and development work.
  • Carry out ad-hoc manual exploratory testing as needed.
  • Write automated tests in selenium and Python.
  • Assist with designing and running periodic soak and performance tests of our infrastructure.
Qualifications
  • A degree in a STEM subject like computer science, maths, the sciences, or engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in automation testing and continuous integration.
  • 3+ years of experience programming in Python, or another mainstream language.
  • Experience working in an agile, dev-ops environment and working through infrastructure setup issues.
  • Experience with a variety of tools like git, Github, Python, Jenkins, Cucumber, Selenium, Webdriver and JIRA.
  • Detail oriented and an aptitude for gleefully breaking other people’s code in as many ways as possible.
  • Must have a valid work permit for the UK.

We are flexible on whether candidates assume line management duties as part of the role. Candidates can take on managing a team of one or two SDETs, and there will be the opportunity to grow into a full ‘Head of QA’ role as the organisation expands. Candidates who prefer to remain individual contributors can do so.
